The East Tennessee State University Research Corporation welcomes three interns this spring, mixing experiential learning with cross-discipline collaboration.

Lexi Ervin joins as a marketing/brand communication intern. Audra Miller will complete a graphic design internship. Jonathan Simoneaux joins as a computing intern. These undergraduate students represent the ETSU College of Business and Technology as well as the College of Arts and Sciences.

“Bringing ETSU students from multiple academic disciplines and colleges to work with our team symbolizes our mission – to be a convening entity while supporting student experiential learning,” said David Golden, ETSU Research Corporation chief executive officer. “We want students to gain workforce experience that is representative of real business conditions. If you’re a graphic designer, for instance, you’ll work not only with other designers but also with IT specialists, web designers, clients and more. Our students benefit from these types of internships as they learn how to collaborate with professionals in other disciplines and interact with clients.”

Ervin is a senior marketing major with a concentration in integrated marketing communication at ETSU. She is also currently interning at senswork Inc., an ETSU Innovation Lab member, and recently began working at Watauga Brewing Company as a marketing coordinator. She is from Johnson City.

Miller, of Kingsport, is currently in her junior year earning a bachelor of fine arts in graphic design. She has worked with organizations on the ETSU campus such as the Baptist Collegiate Ministry and the Department of Art and Design creating graphics.

Simoneaux is a senior information technology student at ETSU. Originally from Gulfport, Mississippi, he now resides in Kodak, Tennessee.

“I am thrilled to learn more about how to work in a professional environment with a variety of people on the intern team, and I look forward to seeing what I can do and learn along the way,” Simoneaux said.

The interns will collaborate throughout the spring semester on marketing projects for the ETSU Research Corporation and its partners.

In addition to experiential learning, interns will gain access to a multitude of industry-standard tools such as HubSpot, as well as professional certification opportunities at no cost. Additionally, interns are eligible for a $500 stipend upon successful completion of their internship thanks to generous funding by Ballad Health in support of student experiential learning.

“This was a highly-competitive applicant pool for our first internship cohort,” said Raina Wiseman, director of operations and marketing for the ETSU Research Corporation. “It proves yet again that ETSU students are hungry for experiences beyond the classroom. Lexi, Jonathan and Audra will have access to some of the best marketing tools available as well as mentorship from our own team and our network of changemakers across the globe.”
